As the weather changes and the fall leaves gather, I find myself drinking tea once again. What I've really been craving is masala chai (which literally means "spiced up tea"). I ordered one from Starbucks the other day, took one sip and threw it out. It was disgustingly sweet and far from the flavors of the chai I drank in India. I search high and low for this chai, but alas, I think I must go back to India for it. Or maybe I can find some at the Ganesh Temple canteen in Queens.

I'd also love some medu vada - tasty fried fritters that you find for sale on the streets in Southern India. |

Typical street scene of the men hanging out drinking their chai and chatting. |
